artist statement
I love combining printmaking, surface design, and embellishment techniques into two- and three-dimensional, interpretive work. I find inspiration from the world’s cultures especially cultural icons and calligraphic forms, methods of personal adornment, and a multitude of traditional hand and fine craft forms.
I enjoy experimenting with new media and techniques that can be applied to my work. I find the rigor of printmaking and hand work to be very well suited to my analytical and creative approach to making art. I enjoy researching and developing collections of visually and historcally related mark making tools. With these groups of related images throughly thought through, I am able to work intuitively with a primary focus on color and texture.
I divide my time between fiber, printmaking studio, and teaching. I encourage experimentation and development of each student’s personal imagery and style.
